Jung-gu, Daegu City (District Mayor Ryu Gyu-ha) conducted a joint public-private inspection on the 21st targeting 52 establishments including entertainment venues and massage parlors near Samdeok-dong and Jongno, areas densely populated with businesses suspected of prostitution.
This inspection was organized to eradicate violence against women such as prostitution and to support victims, following the recent closure of the prostitution hotspot (Jagalmadang) and the growing concerns over new and variant forms of prostitution and prostitution through entertainment establishments.
For this inspection, Jung-gu, Daegu City formed five inspection teams consisting of 30 members, including representatives from Daegu City, Jungbu Police Station, Jungbu Fire Station, Himnae Counseling Center, and Dandelion Counseling Center.
The joint inspection focused on guidance-centered checks to prevent prostitution and concentrated on illegal prostitution mediation. It also thoroughly checked the posting of prostitution prevention notices, the maintenance of entertainment workers’ (entertainment hostesses’) registers, fire safety facilities, and improper advertising practices, while distributing prostitution prevention promotional stickers.
Ryu Gyu-ha, Mayor of Jung-gu, Daegu, stated, “We will do our best to strengthen preventive activities such as inspections of areas densely populated with businesses suspected of prostitution to create a prostitution ZERO Jung-gu.”
Since August 2012, under the ‘Act on the Prevention of Prostitution and Protection of Victims,’ entertainment bars are required to mandatorily post notices related to prostitution prevention to protect victims and prevent prostitution.
