Sangju Hosts 'Bibak Festival' ... Celebration Performances and Film Festival Also Held

Sangju City in Gyeongbuk Province, under the organization of the youth group Sangikhoe (President Shin Hugam), will hold the ‘2024 SangSangju-do Bibak Festival’ from the 23rd for one night and two days at Bukcheon Citizen Park in downtown Sangju to promote tourism and revitalize the commercial district.

The Bibak Festival is a festival based on bibak (spending a night outdoors using natural terrain without a tent) and includes various side events. Following its successful first event last year, which received enthusiastic responses from participants and citizens, this year marks its second edition.

Applications for participants were accepted from January 15 to February 16, resulting in an impressive 1,130 teams applying. Among them, 292 teams were selected through a lottery to enjoy bibak for one night and two days at Bukcheon Citizen Park.

The main events on the first day (23rd) include a cherry blossom trail trekking and a singing contest for bibak participants, as well as a lawn mat movie festival on the Bukcheon grass field and various side events open to general visitors.

Especially on the evening of the 23rd, there will be celebratory performances by the Yudabin Band, Sweet Sorrow, and Dickpunks, along with a spectacular show featuring fire effects and floating fireworks. After the night performances, bibak participants will have time to pack up the next morning.

Mayor Kang Youngseok said, “I hope everyone captures the beautiful spring scenery of Sangju through this festival and creates precious memories. We ask for your great interest in Sangju tourism.”
