"'Child Witnessing 'Mom Assault' Has Nightmares Every Day... Court Releases Perpetrator'"

Victim Undergoes Surgery for Facial Bone Fracture Due to Indiscriminate Beating
Perpetrator Released Citing No Risk of Evidence Tampering

A family member of the victim claimed that a man in his 60s, who brutally assaulted a mother in her 30s in front of her child after she asked him to refrain from using profanity in a cafe, has been released and is threatening those around him.

A, who identified himself as the husband of the indiscriminate assault victim, posted a message titled "Mother indiscriminately assaulted in front of her 7-year-old child, victim's family" on an online community on the 21st. In the post, A said, "My wife was assaulted on the face and other areas by a man last week and is currently undergoing surgery for facial bone fractures," adding, "The child is now suffering from trauma, unable to sleep, and plagued by nightmares."

"(The perpetrator) has not apologized even once so far," A said angrily, adding, "I am barely holding on, thinking I need to stay rational and keep my composure." He also revealed, "Currently, the man’s arrest warrant was dismissed by the judge on the grounds that there is no risk of flight or evidence tampering, and he was sent home over the weekend."

Above all, A said, "The police recognized the perpetrator was intoxicated based solely on his statement without even conducting a blood alcohol concentration test," and added, "The police said the perpetrator was drunk, but the cafe staff said they did not sense any alcohol smell at all. It makes me angry that the police accepted the perpetrator’s claim of drinking without even a single blood alcohol test."

He continued, "What is even more shocking than the dismissal of the arrest warrant is that the perpetrator reportedly visited the crime scene about twice more afterward, questioning the cafe staff whether they had reported business obstruction," and claimed, "So far, he has not apologized even once and is trying to find out how much more his charges will increase. The cafe staff feel threatened and are afraid to testify."

Most netizens who read the husband’s story left comments such as "In the end, the problem is the law," "It seems the law in this country sides with the perpetrator," and "Just reading the story makes me furious."
