Comprehensive Overhaul of Dongjak-gu Volume-Based Waste Bags After 29 Years

Using Pictograms for Easy Waste Disposal... New Designs for Reusable, General, and Food Waste 'Sseukssak, Banjjak, Banggeut' Launching in March... Improved Readability

Comprehensive Overhaul of Dongjak-gu Volume-Based Waste Bags After 29 Years

Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that it will start selling redesigned "volume-based waste bags" from this month to enable proper disposal of household waste.

The district has promoted a design change for the first time in 29 years since the introduction of the volume-based system in 1995, as the existing bags had disposal instructions printed in small letters, making them hard to read.

The new volume-based waste bags have been radically redesigned to improve readability by changing the bag colors, significantly reducing the amount of text, and visualizing non-disposable items with pictograms.

The newly produced bags come in three types: reusable, general, and food waste. The reusable bags are either white with pink letters or light pink with pink letters; the general bags are white with green letters; and the food waste bags are yellow with green letters to distinguish them.

Using images to help residents intuitively understand how to dispose of household waste, the bags include only the necessary information to enhance convenience for the community.

The design of the volume-based bags was inspired by the "speech balloon" in the Dongjak-gu Office slogan, embodying a communicative and empathetic administration that leads new changes in Dongjak.

Onomatopoeic words such as "Ssukssak," "Banjjak," and "Banggeut" are used to depict the clean Dongjak-gu and its streets after cleaning, along with smiling residents.

In particular, to encourage participation in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 in daily life, the phrase "Dongjak-gu residents' eco-friendly practice" is inserted at the knot part of the bag.

▲ On the general bags: "Walk for short distances" ▲ On the reusable bags: "Receive receipts electronically" ▲ On the food waste bags: "Carry reusable containers" ? these emphasize lifestyle rules that reduce waste and consider the environment.

Additionally, a QR code at the top of the bag provides information on how to apply for disposal of "large waste" items such as furniture and home appliances, which should not be disposed of in volume-based bags.

The newly produced volume-based waste bags can be purchased at local marts, convenience stores, and other sales points, or online through the Dongjak Corporation website, with prices remaining the same. Existing bags can be sold and used until stocks run out.

Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, stated, "With this design improvement of the volume-based waste bags, we will establish a proper waste separation culture among residents and improve the local environment. We will continue to strive to make Dongjak-gu a pleasant and livable district."
