Corporation Collaborates with Ministry of Employment and Labor and Occupational Disease Safety Center

Director Gong Heung-du: "Preventing Mass Outbreaks, Achieving Zero Diseases"

The Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (Head: Gong Heung-du) has launched a project to establish a cooperative system for the prevention of occupational diseases.

On the 21st, the Busan Headquarters announced that it held a meeting focused on operating a close collaboration system between the Ministry of Employment and Labor’s jurisdictional offices in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam regions and the Occupational Disease Safety Centers to enable early detection and prevention of the spread of occupational diseases caused by chemical substances.

At this meeting, discussions were held including participant introductions, the current status of the operation of the Occupational Disease Safety Centers in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam area, presentations on major occupational disease surveillance cases, and the 2024 operation plan. Opinions were also raised on the need for a unified operation system for the Safety Centers, the necessity of support organizations, and measures to secure additional professional personnel for center operations.

Additionally, the centers will provide consultations on determining the work-relatedness of occupational diseases by utilizing medical functions in preparation for the increased demand for disease investigations following the enforcement of the Serious Accident Punishment Act. The centers will also collaborate with clinical departments within the centers to promptly identify occupational diseases and play a role in preparing for mass outbreak incidents.

The regional headquarters of the agency has agreed to actively cooperate with the projects promoted by the centers and support the occupational disease surveillance network, which includes local communities and health professional institutions. They will participate in regular meetings and discussions to exchange opinions.

Head Gong emphasized, “Maintaining organic relationships and mutual cooperation between institutions is essential to timely detect suspected cases of occupational diseases and to establish preventive measures against mass outbreaks.”

Head Gong also stressed, “The regional headquarters will spare no effort in actively supporting the centers to achieve zero occupational diseases in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam area through on-site investigations to identify causes of occupational disease occurrences.”
