Jwagwangcheon, a Colorful Tulip Flower Path
Creation of a Four-Season Flowering Jwagwangcheon Walking Trail
Busan’s Gijang-gun has created a tulip walking path along the Jwagwangcheon area for tourists and local residents to enjoy the spring season.
Recently, the county planted 35,000 tulips on the slopes near Dalsan Bridge, Riverside Bridge, Yongsang Bridge, and Jungang Bridge within Jwagwangcheon, allowing residents who frequently visit the area to admire the beautiful and vibrant tulips, whose flower meanings include ‘confession of love’ and ‘eternal affection.’
In particular, the tulips planted along this walking path were grown by the county itself; the bulbs were purchased last November and nurtured for three months in a nursery greenhouse, resulting in a budget saving of approximately 30 million KRW.
Jwagwangcheon is a 14.5 km long local stream that originates from Byeongsangol in Jeonggwan-eup and flows to Imrang Beach in Jangan-eup. It serves as a resting place for residents and is considered a major local tourist attraction.
Along the Jwagwangcheon walking path, forerunners of spring such as forsythia, cherry blossoms, and tulips display their splendid beauty, followed by a rose festival at Witgol Park and Gumokjeong Park. Furthermore, the county plans to enhance residents’ local pride and affection by adding a Rhododendron Hill, the county flower, along the Jwagwangcheon riverside.
County Governor Jeong Jong-bok stated, “We will plant various seasonal flowers to create a walking path that blooms throughout all four seasons, making Jwagwangcheon a healing space where residents can recharge their health and happiness in daily life.” He added, “We will also focus administrative efforts on registering ‘Jwagwangcheon Local Garden’ to help Jwagwangcheon become a landmark garden not only for Gijang-gun but for Busan as a whole.”
Gijang-gun is actively promoting the registration of ‘Jwagwangcheon Local Garden’ by utilizing the geographical, historical, and ecological resources of the Jwagwangcheon ecological stream area.
