Anseong-si Announces 'Urban Regeneration Activation Plan'
Promoting Home Repairs and Street Environment Improvements for 5 Years
The urban regeneration project for the aging old downtown area in Seongnam and Okcheon-dong, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi-do is set to begin in earnest.
Anseong City announced on the 20th that it officially notified the "Seongnam-Okcheon Urban Regeneration Activation Plan" for the old downtown area around Seongnam-dong 326 on the 19th. Accordingly, a regeneration project aimed at expanding the foundation for autonomous growth and restoring the local community will be promoted over five years starting this year in the densely populated aging residential area of 152,728㎡ in this district.
The city plans to invest a total of 10.9 billion KRW in this area to carry out regeneration projects such as home repair and maintenance, street environment improvement, establishment of key facilities, and revitalization of commercial districts and communities.
Looking at the detailed project contents, first, to improve the residential environment, the city will implement ▲ creation of community yards using vacant lots and abandoned or dilapidated houses ▲ performance improvement projects for aging houses.
For landscape improvement, plans include ▲ creation of a village history themed street ▲ establishment of integrated guidelines for residential area landscapes ▲ development of a modernization-specialized street ▲ support for youth startups in alleyway commercial districts ▲ creation of pop-up stores ▲ leasing of vacant commercial spaces.
Additionally, to revitalize the local community, the city will promote ▲ establishment of resident community facilities ▲ training of village activists ▲ operation of on-site support centers.
To secure project funding, the city is pursuing various interdepartmental linked projects and urban regeneration contest projects, while also securing 1.1 billion KRW of its own budget.
Jeon Yong-tae, Director of the Urban Policy Division of Anseong City, said, "We will take the first step in Anseong City's urban regeneration project to breathe new life into the declining area."
