Jung Woo-taek Decides Not to Run in General Election: "I Will Stop My General Election Journey"

Jeong Woo-taek, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly affiliated with the People Power Party, who had his nomination canceled due to allegations of accepting money envelopes, announced on the 20th that he will not run in the general election. He stated that he will remain with the party without running as an independent or under any other affiliation.

At a press conference on the same day, Deputy Speaker Jeong said, "I am halting my journey in this general election," and added, "I repeatedly ask for your dedicated efforts toward the People Power Party's victory in the general election and the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration." After his nomination was canceled due to allegations of accepting money envelopes, there was speculation that Deputy Speaker Jeong might leave the party and run as an independent, but by choosing not to run, he expressed his intention to stay with the party.

He stated, "With just over 20 days remaining until this general election, which is a very important election that determines the future and fate of Cheongju, Chungbuk, and the Republic of Korea, I want to stop my election journey with the mindset of putting the people before the future and the party before oneself. Back in 2016, when the party was on the brink of collapse, I was at the forefront to protect its foundation with a desperate heart. Now, putting aside my personal grievances and frustrations, I have decided to halt my election journey."

Deputy Speaker Jeong added, "I will never succumb to the political character assassination and election interference political maneuvers directed at me. I will fight to the end to clear my personal grievances and innocence, and restore the honor and trust of Cheongju Sangdang and the People Power Party."
