Hyeonchungsa Management Office, Nanjung Ilgi Book Report Contest

Recruiting Travelogues on Historical Sites Related to General Yi Sun-sin

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Shrine Management Office of the Cultural Heritage Administration is conducting a nationwide contest for “General Yi Sun-sin’s Nanjung Ilgi Book Report and Historic Site Exploration Essay” until August 22. This competition aims to promote General Yi Sun-sin’s patriotism and to spread the cultural heritage value of related historic sites such as shrines, tombs, and battlefields. The contest has been held annually since 2013, when the Nanjung Ilgi was registered as a UNESCO Memory of the World. Entries are accepted in two categories: “Nanjung Ilgi Book Report” and “Historic Site Exploration Essay.” Participants simply need to write and submit their reflections on the Nanjung Ilgi or their impressions from visiting General Yi Sun-sin-related historic sites according to the provided format.

The Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin Shrine Management Office will conduct expert evaluations and announce winners in the elementary, middle/high school, and general divisions respectively between September and October. Awards include the Patriotism Award (Cultural Heritage Administration Commissioner Award, 6 recipients), True Talent Award (Member of the National Assembly Award, 12 recipients), and True Leader Award (Naval Academy Superintendent Award, 12 recipients), along with certificates and prizes. Winners will also be invited to the commemorative ceremony celebrating the birth of Admiral Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin held on April 28 next year.
