Certification Application Buildings: 1 Best and 2 Excellent Locations

UNIST (President Yong-Hoon Lee) has received the highest and excellent safety certification ratings for three buildings: the Secondary Battery Industry-Academia Research Center, the Seawater Resource Technology Research Center, and the 3rd Dormitory.

UNIST Achieves 'Highest Excellence' and 'Excellence' Grades in Educational Facility Safety Certification UNIST awarded the highest and excellent grades in educational facility safety certification.

The Education Facility Safety Certification system evaluates buildings with a total floor area of 3,000㎡ or more at universities, according to the "Act on Safety and Maintenance of Educational Facilities." Experts verify 49 items across three categories?facility safety, indoor environmental safety, and outdoor environmental safety?and issue certificates based on the level of safety compliance.

The certification was conducted by the Korea Industrial Safety Association, a specialized institution for education facility certification. Through document review, on-site inspection, and certification committee deliberation, one of the three buildings under review (the Seawater Resource Technology Research Center) received the "Highest" rating. The other two buildings were awarded the "Excellent" rating.

Kwon Yong-Jun, Director of the Safety Facility Management Headquarters, stated, "Obtaining the education facility safety certification will enhance the trust of members in the facilities," and added, "We will also proceed smoothly with safety certification for the remaining 17 facilities to create a safe and comfortable environment where research and education can be fully focused on."

Marking its 15th anniversary, UNIST is growing into a world-class research-oriented university. Since December 2022, it has been operating an international standard safety and health management system (ISO45001) to protect not only its members but all visitors. Efforts to establish a culture of 'compliance with safe work procedures' continue, including the operation of a safety work permit system and the use of mobile CCTV.
