Crying Heard for 25 Seconds Then Suddenly Stopped... Police Find and Save 4-Year-Old Child After 6 Minutes

Performing CPR on an Unconscious Child

A 4-year-old girl who nearly lost consciousness due to choking was safely rescued thanks to the quick response of the police.

On the 19th, the Seongbuk Police Station in Seoul shared a story of an officer saving the life of a 4-year-old child. The incident occurred at around 8:34 PM on the 14th. A 112 emergency call captured a woman’s sobbing voice. The police asked the woman for the reason for the call and her location, but she was unable to speak properly, and the call ended after 25 seconds.

Judging the situation to be urgent, the police issued a Code Zero (a code indicating the shortest response time). The 112 control room and the monitoring center immediately examined the CCTV footage of a densely populated multi-family housing area in Seongbuk-gu, which was presumed to be the location of the call.

Within six minutes, the police identified the silhouette of an adult woman moving frantically behind a first-floor window of a detached house on the screen and instructed officers on site to respond. The officers found A (4), unconscious and collapsed on the living room floor, and performed CPR for about ten minutes. Fortunately, A regained consciousness. It was found that A had been playing on the living room sofa and was choking on the blind cord around her neck. Her mother, B, had called the police and then untied the cord and laid her daughter on the floor.

B, in extreme urgency, mistakenly called 112 instead of 119 and realized the error later, hanging up the phone. Meanwhile, neighbors who heard B’s crying reported the situation, prompting the 119 rescue team to also respond. A, having regained consciousness, was transported to a nearby hospital. It was reported that A has fully recovered.

A police official explained, "In an emergency where the caller’s location was unclear, the local police, monitoring center, and 112 control room worked together to quickly and accurately identify the caller’s location."
