According to a survey of foreign tourists visiting Japan in February this year by nationality, Koreans accounted for the highest proportion.

According to the February foreign visitor statistics to Japan released by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) on the 19th, the number of foreign tourists who visited Japan last month was 2,788,000, marking the highest number ever recorded for February. NHK analyzed that "the number itself was boosted by an increase in visitors from Asian countries due to holiday periods such as Lunar New Year."

By country or region, Koreans were the most numerous with 818,500 visitors, followed by Taiwan with 502,200, and China with 459,400. Hong Kong ranked fourth with 205,900 visitors. Earlier in January this year, the number of Koreans visiting Japan was 857,000, setting a record high for a single month.

On the other hand, the recovery in the number of Japanese people traveling abroad has been slow due to the weak yen and other factors. In February, 979,800 Japanese people departed, which was 36% less than the same month in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.
