Nong-eochon Gong Jeonnam Advances Water Facility Renovation Project... 270 Billion KRW Invested

The Jeonnam Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (Head: Jo Young-ho) announced on the 19th that it will invest 270 billion KRW in 182 districts for repair and reinforcement of aging reservoirs and structural improvements of earthen canals as part of the water facility repair project to prevent disasters.

The water facility repair project involves repairing and renovating water facilities such as reservoirs, pumping stations, intake weirs, and irrigation and drainage canals that have deteriorated in function due to aging or damage, making them vulnerable to disasters, in order to prevent disasters and improve farming convenience.

The agricultural production infrastructure managed by the Jeonnam Headquarters includes a total of 2,962 sites: 1,052 reservoirs, 787 pumping and drainage stations, and 20,309 km of irrigation and drainage canals. Regular quarterly inspections and detailed safety diagnoses are conducted to sequentially carry out repair projects starting with facilities that have a high risk level.

This year, 270 billion KRW will be invested, with 78 newly selected districts including ▲ reservoir dredging (37 districts) ▲ irrigation and drainage canals (13 districts) ▲ reinforcement of reservoirs and pumping and drainage stations (13 districts) ▲ performance improvement of drainage stations (1 district).

In particular, as the risk of natural disasters such as droughts and short-term concentrated heavy rains has been increasing recently, the need to secure water and strengthen flood response capabilities is growing. Accordingly, the Jeonnam Headquarters plans to focus on proactive measures.
