US Healthcare Company 'Elvis' to Establish 'AI Brain Disease Treatment Research Center' in Daegu with 17.5 Billion KRW Investment

On the 19th at 11 a.m., Daegu City signed an investment agreement at the Sangyeok Office of Daegu City Hall to establish an ‘AI-based Brain Disease Treatment Research Center’ within Suseong Alpha City with Elvis.

Elvis is a startup founded in 2013 in Silicon Valley (Palo Alto), USA, by Jin-Hyung Lee, the first Korean female tenured professor at Stanford University, that researches and develops AI-based brain disease solutions.

Elvis developed ‘NeuroMatch,’ an AI-based deep learning software that analyzes brain circuits to diagnose various brain diseases such as dementia and epilepsy and proposes optimal treatment methods. NeuroMatch received approval last year from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, standing out in the digital healthcare field. This digital-based treatment method is expected to dramatically improve the efficiency of brain disease treatment.

To become a global digital healthcare company, Elvis plans to invest 17.5 billion KRW to newly build the ‘AI-based Brain Disease Treatment Research Center’ on an 870㎡ (263 pyeong) site within Suseong Alpha City and hire local talent to conduct research for diagnosing and treating epilepsy and sleep disorders.

Through this investment, Elvis will conduct demonstration projects in actual clinical environments with general hospitals in Daegu, including Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital, Kyungpook National University Hospital, Yeungnam University Hospital, Daegu Catholic University Hospital, Daegu Medical Center, and Daegu Fatima Hospital.

Jin-Hyung Lee, founder of Elvis, said, “We decided to invest in Daegu because it has sufficient digital healthcare-related infrastructure such as the Korea Brain Research Institute and multiple university hospitals, and a concentration of talent in the ABB field. We will contribute to the growth of the local medical and ABB-related industries and work more closely with Daegu City to hire local talent and help the regional economy take off.”

Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said, “We expect Elvis’s investment to play a major role in helping Suseong Alpha City grow into a new research hub for AI-based brain disease treatment and domestic digital healthcare. We will operate a one-stop investment support group to provide full administrative and policy support to ensure the successful execution of Elvis’s investment.”
