Ulju-gun Conducts Surgical Treatment and Growth Environment Improvement for 'Protected Trees and Old Trees'

Ulsan's Ulju-gun is conducting tree surgery, growth environment improvement projects, and pest control projects targeting protected trees and old trees, which are forest resources that preserve the village's long history and tradition.

Protected trees and old trees are designated among old and large trees, rare trees, and other trees according to the 'Forest Protection Act' and the 'Ordinance on the Designation and Management of Protected Trees and Old Trees in Ulsan City.'

Currently, Ulju-gun manages 36 protected trees and 170 old trees.

This project will continue until August and targets 151 protected and old trees in the area that require management. Among them, tree surgery will be performed on 16 trees with poor growth environments, including the Zelkova tree in Mangyang-ri, Onyang-eup.

Tree surgery is a procedure that removes decayed parts of trees infected by pests and pathogens due to long-term exposure to external environments as the tree ages. A professional technician qualified as a tree doctor performs sterilization and pest control after the surgery, followed by artificial bark treatment.

An official from Ulju-gun stated, "We will make every effort to preserve the trees through continuous growth environment improvement projects," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that protected and old trees continue to serve as resting places for residents and symbolic trees for a long time."
