Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun held a "Communication and Empathy Time" with employees of the Green City Bureau at Hwamyung Arboretum to discuss current municipal issues.
On the 18th at 3 p.m., Busan City held a ‘Communication and Empathy Time’ at Hwamyung Arboretum with Mayor Park Hyung-jun and employees from the City’s Green City Bureau.
This event was organized to share the park and green space policy direction of the newly launched Green City Bureau earlier this year, aimed at realizing the vision of a ‘Green Smart City Busan,’ and to facilitate free communication and in-depth discussions with employees on key issues.
The Green City Bureau was established on February 14 to proactively respond to carbon neutrality and climate change and to fulfill the promises of the 8th municipal administration. By unifying the management of national parks, national gardens, and private park development, it is systematizing the reorganization of parks unique to Busan with the goal of ‘Busan, a city within a park.’
Before the meeting, Mayor Park thoroughly toured Hwamyung Arboretum, listened to the vivid on-site voices and suggestions of the staff, and inspected the overall safety of facilities including wooden structure bridges such as Daecheon Bridge, which was repaired last year.
Located in Buk-gu, Hwamyung Arboretum is a public arboretum opened in 2011 and managed and operated by a business office under the Green City Bureau. Utilizing facilities such as nine themed gardens, one exhibition greenhouse, and a forest exhibition hall, it functions as an ecological experience education center by operating forest experience events.
Following this, during the ‘Employee Communication and Empathy Time,’ about 40 employees from the Green City Bureau shared the vision of ‘Green City Busan full of happiness in parks and gardens’ and intensively reviewed key promotion strategies.
They also discussed various aspects of current projects such as ‘Activation Plans for Haeundae Arboretum’ and ‘Connecting Green Corridors within the City,’ including immediate tasks and policy directions for project implementation.
In particular, they freely debated strategies for both quantitative expansion and qualitative improvement of parks and green spaces with the staff in charge, covering topics such as the design of Busan’s park and green environment, designation of national urban parks, and garden creation plans utilizing leftover spaces in various urban development projects.
Mayor Park urged employees to make their best efforts to create a green city Busan that all generations and classes can enjoy together and promised strong support from the city.
During the Q&A session afterward, Mayor Park and the employees shared meaningful time exchanging opinions on work difficulties and suggestions.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun said, “We will apply advanced country-style park designs, such as England’s Hyde Park, which combines parks and sports facilities, to Busan’s parks so that citizens can feel the fun and meaning of living in the city center,” adding, “Centered on the Green City Bureau, which is the first of its kind in Busan’s municipal history and the third nationwide, we will create a ‘premium ecological city Busan’ where all citizens can enjoy greenery anytime and anywhere in the city.” He continued, “Through a unique organizational culture in Busan that constantly communicates with employees, we will build together a ‘city where anyone in daily life is happy, and Busan where people want to live again.’”
The ‘Employee Communication and Empathy Time’ was established to discover creative policies, share municipal goals, and explore future development plans through free policy communication between Mayor Park and employees, and will continue to be promoted targeting city-affiliated organizations and business offices.
