March 15?June 28: Anyone including residents, business employees, and students can propose projects contributing to Gangnam's development
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) will hold a public contest for resident-participation budget proposal projects to be reflected in next year's budget from March 15 to June 28.
Any resident, employees or executives of local businesses, students, and others can propose projects that enhance resident convenience and contribute to the development of Gangnam. The budget scale is around 2 billion KRW and is divided into general proposals, neighborhood-level proposals, and proposals with petitions from 1,000 people. Submitted proposals will be reviewed by the relevant departments and deliberated by the Gangnam-gu Resident Participation Budget Committee, then reflected in the 2025 budget draft and finalized after approval by the district council. Those who wish to participate can apply via the district office website (Communication·Participation → Resident Participation Budget → Proposal Submission) or visit or mail to the Planning and Budget Division of the district office.
Additionally, to encourage active participation in the contest, a Budget School will be operated from April to May. It will introduce the basic concepts and values of resident participation budgeting, proposal writing methods, and best practices, which may be unfamiliar to residents. Previously, this education was only for resident participation budget committee members, but this time it will be expanded to allow interested residents to attend. Furthermore, local meetings by neighborhood will be revitalized to provide residents with opportunities to solve local issues they have been concerned about.
Last year, through the resident participation budget project, the "Senior Citizen Longevity Photo Shooting Project" involved 870 seniors from 105 senior centers. The "Urban Water Playground Operation Project" for children and families during summer vacation was held as a theme park-style festival at Yulhyeon Park and Ilwon Eco Park, reflecting the proposer’s intent and receiving great response from residents.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "The resident participation budget system is established to realize fiscal democracy by allowing residents to directly participate in the budgeting process," and added, "We ask for the interest and participation of residents so that essential projects for Gangnam-gu can be discovered through this contest."
