Newly Established Media Shelter, Study Rooms, and Gallery Cafe... Pilot Operation from the 19th, Official Reopening on the 23rd
The Sayuksin History Museum is being reborn as a representative historical and cultural complex space in Dongjak-gu.
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced that the Sayuksin History Museum has completed a five-month remodeling and will begin a pilot operation from today, with an official reopening scheduled for the 23rd.
The Sayuksin History Museum (191 Noryangjin-ro) is a historical and cultural facility located within Sayuksin Park, between Noryangjin Station and Nodeul Station. It has a total floor area of 812.64㎡ and consists of one basement floor and two above-ground floors. It was established in 2011.
The district started remodeling work last November to transform the aging facility, which is over 10 years old, into a space where residents and visitors can enjoy history and culture, completing the renovation this month.
In particular, the first floor of the Sayuksin History Museum was newly created to include a media lounge, study rooms, and a gallery cafe, in addition to the existing video room.
The media lounge is a space where three walls serve as screens for video content screenings, allowing residents to comfortably gather and enjoy media art exhibitions related to history and culture, as well as classical music performances.
Also, taking advantage of Noryangjin’s status as the nation’s largest exam preparation area with many young people preparing for various tests, the existing education experience room was reconfigured into study rooms and opened to examinees.
Furthermore, a gallery cafe was created in a corner of the lobby, providing a space where visitors can enjoy artworks while drinking tea, allowing them to take a brief and comfortable rest.
On the second floor exhibition hall, visitors can explore historical documents related to the Sayuksin, loyal subjects of the Joseon Dynasty.
The museum is open to anyone who wishes to visit, with operating hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
The district plans to conduct a final inspection during the temporary opening period to identify any improvements before officially opening on the 23rd.
To celebrate the reopening, various events will be held starting with an opening congratulatory performance by the Arc Guitar Duo at 1 p.m. at the main entrance of the history museum, followed by an animation film screening (“Soul”) for children in the first-floor video room.
Going forward, the district aims to further develop Sayuksin History Museum as a historical and cultural city by expanding diverse programs such as exhibitions of emerging artists’ paintings, regular exhibition commentaries, and Sayuksin Cinema screenings.
Park Il-ha, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “Through the reopening of the Sayuksin History Museum, we expect residents to enjoy programs linked to local history and culture in a pleasant environment,” adding, “We will continue to implement various policies to expand cultural enjoyment opportunities for residents.”
