Samsung Electronics, which launched the Galaxy A15, a smartphone priced in the 300,000 KRW range, in South Korea, is reportedly planning to introduce smartphones in the 500,000 to 600,000 KRW range domestically within the first half of the year.

According to industry sources on the 19th, Samsung Electronics is preparing to release two mid-range devices expected to be priced in the 500,000 and 600,000 KRW ranges in South Korea. The model SM-A356N, presumed to be the Galaxy A35, obtained radio certification from the National Radio Research Agency on January 31, and the SM-A556S, presumed to be the A55, passed Bluetooth SIG certification on the 23rd of last month. Considering that the Galaxy A15 (model SM-A155N) took about two months from certification by the National Radio Research Agency on January 10 to launch, the Galaxy A35 could be released as early as the beginning of next month. A Samsung Electronics official stated, "We are working to launch within the first half of the year."

The specs and appearance of the A35 and A55 were revealed earlier this month in the Indian market. According to Samsung Electronics' India website, these phones offer ▲ a 50MP rear triple camera ▲ a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate ▲ a 5000mAh battery, among other features. The A35 has a 13MP front camera and comes in three colors, while the A55 features a 32MP front camera and is available in two colors. A company representative said, "The appearance is the same, but specs such as RAM and storage capacity may vary depending on the country of release."

Samsung Electronics continues its mid-range phone launch strategy following the release of the 300,000 KRW range device. Considering that the Galaxy A15’s price in India is approximately 313,700 KRW (19,499 INR), similar to the domestic retail price, it is expected that the two mid-range phones will be priced similarly in South Korea. The Galaxy A35 is priced at 498,460 KRW (30,999 INR) for the 128GB version and 546,700 KRW (33,999 INR) for the 256GB version in India. The Galaxy A55 is priced at 643,580 KRW (39,999 INR) for 128GB and 691,420 KRW (42,999 INR) for 256GB.

Samsung Electronics’ mid-range device launch strategy aligns with the Ministry of Science and ICT’s policy to alleviate household communication expenses. Last month, the Ministry met with Samsung Electronics to request cooperation in promoting mid-range device releases. This was due to the need for effective alternatives even before the repeal of the Device Distribution Act passes through the National Assembly. The Ministry has revised and implemented enforcement ordinances of the Device Distribution Act and prepared notifications including provisions to provide a 500,000 KRW switching subsidy upon number portability.
