Second Global Series Production
The online video service (OTT) Coupang Play announced on the 18th that it will release the global series 'Dongjoja' directed by Park Chan-wook over seven weeks starting in April.
Director Park, who won the Best Director award at the 75th Cannes Film Festival for the film 'Decision to Leave' (2022), presents the American HBO original series 'Dongjoja' as his next work. This is his second time directing a global series, following the British BBC's 'The Little Drummer Girl.' He participated as a co-showrunner, overseeing all processes from production and screenplay to directing.
'Dongjoja' (The Sympathizer) is a spy thriller depicting the story of a North Vietnamese intelligence agent infiltrating the secret police of South Vietnam in the 1970s. It is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name by Vietnamese-American author Viet Thanh Nguyen. Actor Hoa Xuande plays the lead spy role, and Robert Downey Jr. takes on four different roles. Korean-American actress Sandra Oh also appears in the series.
