Who is the Ultimate Street Dance Champion on Hongdae Red Road? The Red Road Dance Festival, held for the first time last year

Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is recruiting participants for the 'Red Road International Street Dance Festival' dance battle until March 29.

The Red Road International Street Dance Festival was first held last year to support the success of South Korean athletes as breaking was officially adopted as an event in the 2024 Paris Olympics, and to revitalize the busking culture that had been stagnant due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, the second edition will take place from April 27 to 28 at Red Road in Hongdae.

Dance battles are open to any dance teams consisting of 2 to 10 members from all street dance genres including hip-hop, popping, and locking.

Dance teams wishing to participate must submit an application form and a preliminary video (within 5 minutes) via email to the Mapo-gu Tourism Policy Division by 6 PM on the 29th.

Six teams selected through preliminary screening based on the submitted videos will compete in a tournament format on the main stage R6 at Red Road on the day of the festival.

The total prize money for the battle is 11 million KRW, with 5 million KRW for the first place team, 3 million KRW for the second place team, 1.5 million KRW for the third place team, and 500,000 KRW each for three popularity award teams.

For more details, please check the Mapo-gu website or contact the Mapo-gu Tourism Policy Division.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “It is no exaggeration to say that South Korea’s street dance culture was born in Hongdae. I hope that Red Road in Hongdae will continue to be the central stage for street dancers and a place where excellent dancers emerge. We ask for the interest and participation of talented dancers in this Mapo-gu Red Road Street Dance Festival.”
