Inspection of Cold Damage Prevention at the Site
Thorough Growth Management Request and Listening to Difficulties
Song Miryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, visited the pear production complex in Gunwi-gun, Daegu, and the Apple Research Center at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science on the 17th to check this year’s growth management status and response to low-temperature damage during the flowering period, and to encourage on-site personnel.
This visit was made to proactively check disaster response measures for stable production this year, as fruit production sharply decreased due to spring cold damage last year, causing prices to remain high.
Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, visited the pear production complex in Gunwi-gun, Daegu, and the Apple Research Center of the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science on the 17th to inspect this year's growth management status and the response to low-temperature damage during the flowering period, and encouraged the field officials.
First, Minister Song visited a pear orchard to inspect the spraying status of cold damage prevention agents, saying, “We must do our best in growth management this year to prevent a repeat of supply and demand instability like last year,” and added, “Since the flowering period is expected to be earlier this year as well, I hope farmers, local governments, and the Rural Development Administration will all pay special attention to prevention, such as timely spraying of cold damage prevention agents and early completion of disaster prevention facility installation.”
Next, Minister Song visited the Apple Research Center at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science to check the response status to low-temperature damage during the flowering period and the status of next-generation orchard establishment, emphasizing, “As damage due to climate change and abnormal weather is rapidly increasing, proactive technological development such as damage prevention technologies and cultivar development is necessary,” and added, “To establish a stable production base, it is necessary to expand next-generation orchards that greatly improve productivity through easier pest and disease control and mechanization.”
