Former Hwasun County Governor Guchung-gon Declares Support for Naju-Hwasun Preliminary Candidate Sin Jeong-hoon

Former Hwasun County Governor Koo Choong-gon, who ran in the three-person primary for the Democratic Party candidate in the Naju·Hwasun district but did not make it to the runoff, has come out in support of prospective candidate Shin Jeong-hoon.

On the 15th, former Governor Koo sent a text message to supporters and acquaintances expressing his support for Shin Jeong-hoon.

He said, "Although I stop here, the development of Hwasun must not be halted," adding, "Someone who knows Hwasun and understands what needs to be done should become the local leader."

He continued, "Prospective candidate Shin Jeong-hoon is a re-elected member of the National Assembly from our region who has always stood by us, sharing Hwasun’s concerns and pains," emphasizing, "In particular, he extended the mining subsidy, laying the foundation for regional development, and is preparing for the second phase of Hwasun’s leap forward through vaccine and bio industries. He is a trustworthy figure to entrust with Hwasun’s future."

The text message also included the names of Jeonnam provincial councilors and Hwasun county councilors.

In response, prospective candidate Shin Jeong-hoon immediately posted on social media, "I deeply thank former Hwasun County Governor Koo Choong-gon for making a magnanimous decision for Naju·Hwasun," and added, "I also express my gratitude and consolation to former Hwasun County Governor Lim Ho-kyung, Jeonnam provincial and Hwasun county councilors, and all supporters who support me along with former Governor Koo."

He further stated, "I will take former Governor Koo’s excellent pledges and policies and turn them into valuable assets for Naju·Hwasun," emphasizing, "Hwasun is special to me. I started the 21st general election campaign in Hwasun, and I have started this election here as well," and added, "Just as I kept my promises in the 21st National Assembly, I will continue to keep my promises."

He also said, "Just as the extension of the mining subsidy laid the foundation for regional development, I will foster the vaccine and bio industries to ensure Hwasun’s leap forward," adding, "I will resolve conflicts and divisions from the primary process and lead harmony and coexistence. I will become a powerful three-term National Assembly member, accelerate regional development, and build a strong Democratic Party together with party leader Lee Jae-myung."

Meanwhile, the Democratic Party primary in the Naju·Hwasun electoral district was contested by three prospective candidates: Koo Choong-gon, Son Geum-ju, and Shin Jeong-hoon. Since no candidate secured a majority, a runoff election between Son Geum-ju and Shin Jeong-hoon will be held over two days, June 16?17.
