"Decision to Cancel Do Tae-woo's Nomination Should Have Been Made Sooner"
Lawyer Do Tae-woo, who ran as a candidate for the ruling and opposition parties in the general election, and former Democratic Party lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju, who were both embroiled in past controversial remarks, had their nominations canceled respectively. Meanwhile, Lee Sang-min, a lawmaker from the People Power Party, raised his voice, saying, "Regardless of ruling or opposition parties and political factions, all protagonists of offensive remarks must be cut out."
On the 15th, Lee appeared on BBS Radio's 'Jeon Young-shin's Morning Journal' and commented on Lawyer Do, whose nomination was canceled due to disparaging remarks about the May 18 Democratic Uprising, saying, "It is a very appropriate conclusion," but added, "It would have been better if the decision had been made a little earlier."

The day before, the People Power Party's nomination management committee canceled the nomination of Lawyer Do (Daegu Jung-Nam District), who caused controversy over his disparaging remarks about the May 18 incident. Initially, the party's nomination committee stated that they would maintain the nomination decision, citing that Lawyer Do had issued two public apologies to the people. However, as additional inappropriate remarks were revealed, they ultimately resolved to cancel his nomination.
Lee said, "According to the nomination committee of the People Power Party, Lawyer Do apologized multiple times, and since sincerity was felt in the apologies, they seemed to intend to forgive that part," but he pointed out, "However, the personal level of forgiveness and the public judgment from the people's perspective are separate matters."
He added, "This is a very sensitive general election period, and we must not cause harm to other candidates," and said, "Also, the public evaluates the party's stance, and if there is hesitation or a wavering attitude in these matters, the people’s severe judgment cannot be avoided."
Regarding the cancellation of the nomination of former lawmaker Jeong Bong-ju (Seoul Gangbuk-eul), who caused controversy with his 'crutch prize' remarks, Lee criticized, "It’s not even at the level to talk about morality; it’s just offensive remarks," and said, "The media and YouTube pick up their words, and supporters cheer. Being intoxicated by this, they make even stronger and more sensational remarks, making it difficult for someone in politics to hold their head high in front of the people."
