Support up to 250,000 KRW per adopted dog or cat for disease diagnosis, treatment, and vaccination costs
Available to adopters adopting from designated local animal protection centers regardless of residence... Up to 3 pets per person
Adoption fee support on a first-come, first-served basis for applications within 6 months after adopting registered abandoned animals
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is implementing the ‘Stray Animal Adoption Fee Support Project’ to foster a mature culture of adopting stray animals and to alleviate the financial burden on adopters.
As the number of people adopting companion dogs has recently increased, the number of lost and abandoned animals has also risen significantly. Animals rescued to shelters or lost and abandoned animals may be euthanized if not adopted.
Accordingly, the district supports the incidental costs required at the time of adoption every year for those who adopt lost or abandoned animals (dogs and cats) rescued in Gwangjin-gu and announced at the designated animal protection center, the ‘Korea Animal Rescue Management Association.’
Anyone who completes the pre-adoption education on the ‘Animal Love Learning Center’ website and adopts a stray animal can apply regardless of their place of residence. However, only applications submitted within 6 months after adoption are supported on a first-come, first-served basis, and the program may end early if the budget is exhausted.
Adoption fees are supported only for stray animals with completed animal registration (implantable chip), with up to 250,000 KRW supported per animal. Each adopter can receive support for up to 3 animals.
The support covers ▲ disease diagnosis and treatment costs ▲ vaccinations ▲ neutering surgery costs ▲ grooming costs ▲ animal registration fees ▲ pet insurance subscription fees, etc.
Residents wishing to receive support should prepare related documents such as the adoption confirmation within 6 months after adoption and apply by visiting the Regional Economy Division of Gwangjin-gu Office or by email.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “A responsible attitude is even more necessary when adopting an animal that was once abandoned,” and added, “We will do our best to activate the adoption of lost and abandoned animals through the adoption fee support project and to foster a mature adoption culture.”
