"Early Detection of Pest Clusters, the First Step in Pest Control"

Jeonbuk Gimje City (Mayor Jeong Seong-ju) announced on the 14th that it will inspect pest egg clusters in advance to establish measures to prevent the spread and control of sudden outbreak pests in agricultural and forestry areas by the 24th.

According to the city, this is to prevent the spread of sudden outbreak pests and minimize crop damage. They will investigate sudden outbreak pest egg clusters (overwintering eggs, 越冬卵) such as brown-winged cicadas, cicada moths, spotted lanternflies, and American wax scale, and based on the results, determine the optimal timing for pest control and establish a control plan.

Sudden outbreak pests are invasive pests whose populations rapidly surge due to abnormal climate conditions such as high temperatures in spring, causing significant damage to crops. They suck sap from fruit trees or vegetables, secrete waste, or chew on leaves and flowers, greatly reducing the quantity and quality of fruits, making early response crucial.

The City Agricultural Technology Center will continuously conduct monitoring to minimize damage from sudden outbreak pests and increase agricultural productivity. A budget of 40 million KRW has been allocated for preemptive pest control, and joint control measures will be implemented during the nymph stage in mid to late May.

Mayor Jeong Seong-ju of Gimje City said, "We ask for the active participation of farmers in removing overwintering eggs to prevent damage from sudden outbreak pests," adding, "We will strive to minimize damage to farms through continuous monitoring and technical guidance at agricultural sites."
