Announced Key Policy Pledges in Various Fields

Independent candidate for National Assembly member Lee Yoon-seok held a press conference at 11 a.m. on the 14th at his campaign office in Mokpo City, expressing strong regret over the Democratic Party's primary election results.


He also proposed a one-on-one final debate with Kim Won-i, the incumbent lawmaker who received the Democratic Party nomination for the Mokpo district, separate from the debate hosted by the Election Commission.


Following this, candidate Lee announced key policies across various fields as campaign pledges and urged the citizens of Mokpo to take interest and participate.

The main pledges announced that day include △ the opening of the Mokpo metropolitan era by integrating Mokpo, Sinan, and even Muan △ construction of an eco-friendly high-speed outer ring road for Mokpo by land, sea, and air △ construction of the tentatively named ‘Mokpo Seonchang Bridge’ connecting Mokpo South Port and Yongdang Port △ revision and implementation of the Mokpo Station project into a comprehensive station worth 500 billion KRW △ creation of ‘Korea’s Naples’ along the coastal road area from Seonchang, Dongmyeong-dong, Daeban-dong, Haeyang University to Yudalsan in Mokpo △ rapid promotion of the West Coast Maintenance Plant project for the Korea Coast Guard △ enactment of a special law for the Mokpo renewable energy specialized complex △ legislation banning same-sex marriage △ legalization of support for media and cultural arts sectors △ and legislation of a tourism pension system for all citizens.


In particular, candidate Lee Yoon-seok stated, “I will fully support the establishment of a medical school at Mokpo National University and the selection of a glocal university, foster Mokpo Maritime University into a world-class hub for marine and fisheries fields, legislate the phased payment of education allowances for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students, expand after-school care services, and promote research funding for all teaching staff.”


He also promised, “I will establish the Mokpo Citizen Comprehensive Welfare Center and install facilities such as the Senior Total Care Center, Women’s Enjoyment Center, Youth Support Center, and Our Child Happiness Center inside to eliminate welfare blind spots, provide free rental housing for newlyweds and youth, and actively support health management for pregnant women and persons with disabilities.”


Meanwhile, candidate Lee Yoon-seok previously served as a two-term National Assembly member for the Jeonnam Sinan-Muan district, a three-term provincial assembly member, chairman of the provincial council, and university president. Holding a doctorate in political science, he criticized the Democratic Party’s unfair and unreasonable primary process, left the party, and has been preparing to run as an independent candidate.
