Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Science and ICT, and National Intelligence Service
Sign Agreement to Operate Anti-Drone Training Facility
Goseong County in Gyeongnam announced on the 14th that the Goseong Drone Development Test Center has been designated as the nation’s first ‘National Anti-Drone Training Site.’
Recently, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the National Intelligence Service signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Designation, Operation, and Use of National Anti-Drone Training Sites’ to strengthen the country’s response capabilities against drone threats.
This MOU designates two national drone infrastructures?the Goseong Drone Development Test Center in Gyeongsangnam-do and the Uiseong Drone Flight Test Center?as ‘National Anti-Drone Training Sites.’ It includes cooperation among the three ministries to ensure that anti-drone equipment can be tested and performance verified safely and smoothly at the training sites.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will manage the operation of the training sites, the Ministry of Science and ICT will handle radio wave management related to performance verification, and the National Intelligence Service will be responsible for discovering and supporting training demands.
The Goseong Drone Development Test Center is located within the ‘Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Comprehensive Town’ in Naegok-ri, Donghae-myeon. Its main facilities include ▲spaces for performance verification of drone components and assemblies ▲drone airfields.
Previously, in September 2022, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport designated the ‘UAV Comprehensive Town’ as an investment leading district, aiming to create an industrial complex where all stages?research and development, manufacturing, and test flights?are concentrated, linked with already established drone airfields.
County Governor Lee Sang-geun said, “With the designation as a National Anti-Drone Training Site, our Goseong has secured essential facilities such as a dedicated drone flight test site and an integrated test center, making it an unavoidable destination for all drone companies.” He added, “Once the operation of the UAV Integrated Test Center is in full swing, drone-related companies and institutions will be able to cluster in Goseong.”
Meanwhile, anti-drone refers to equipment that neutralizes illegal drones involved in terrorism, crime, privacy invasion, and other unlawful activities.
