Gangjin Byeongyeong-myeon Urban Regeneration Accelerates Youth Store Development
Economic Revitalization Through Specialty Foods Utilizing Local Products
Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do is making every effort to revitalize the 5-day markets at the myeon (township) level and support youth entrepreneurship.
According to the county on the 14th, on the 13th, a judging committee meeting was held for young prospective entrepreneurs wishing to start businesses at the Byeongyeong-myeon 5-day market in Gangjin-gun.
The judging, held at the Gangjin-eup Youth Shop Shared Kitchen, involved young people who hoped to move into the Byeongyeong 5-day market through the urban regeneration project presenting their business plans and demonstrating cooking on-site for tasting.

They received high praise from the judges by showcasing not only delicious but also creative ideas, such as specialized foods not previously found in the Byeongyeong commercial area, including pickles made from Gangjin’s specialty, Yeoju, pasta using Byeongyeong garlic, and pizza topped with Byeongyeong charcoal-grilled bulgogi.
One young participant in the judging said, “Because my father has diabetes, I became aware of Gangjin’s Yeoju and devised Yeoju pickles. After participating in the 4do 3chon Byeongyeong Stay program conducted through the urban regeneration project, I moved to Byeongyeong-myeon and dreamed of starting a business. I am excited to be able to showcase what I want on the stage of a youth store.”
Another young person stated, “We plan to introduce various dishes that visitors to ‘Bulgeumbulpa’ (Burning Friday Bulgogi Party), opening in April, can enjoy alongside Byeongyeong charcoal-grilled bulgogi. We will do our best to revitalize tourism through food and boost the local economy.”
Meanwhile, teams moving into the urban regeneration youth stores in Byeongyeong-myeon, Gangjin-gun will be provided with startup spaces for up to two years and receive tailored consulting, education for capacity building, and support for promotion.
