Yangcheon-gu Launches Job Matching for 7,600 Job Seekers with 54.1 Billion Won Investment

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it has established the "2024 Comprehensive Job Policy Plan" to create an "economic city of Yangcheon where anyone can work," investing approximately 54.1 billion KRW, an increase of 6.5 billion KRW compared to last year, to create a total of 7,600 jobs.

Last year, the district's job creation performance reached 7,945 people, exceeding the target (6,971 people) by 114%. In particular, employment support projects in the private sector, such as middle-aged and senior employment linkage (356%), job fairs (114%), and on-site job discovery (103%), saw significant increases.

This is interpreted as the result of the district's efforts to minimize job seeker mismatches through customized policies reflecting job seeker demand.

This year, the district's job creation target is 7,616 jobs, an increase of 1,066 from the 6,550 target set in the second year of the 4-year comprehensive plan of the 8th elected administration. Based on four major strategies?▲Yangcheon where youth can take pride ▲Customized accompaniment with vulnerable employment groups through the establishment of a Yangcheon-type talent pool ▲Revitalization of the local economy through commercial district development and support for small business owners ▲Establishment of a job and start-up support network?the district will implement a total of 113 job projects.

By sector, the employment targets are set as follows: ▲Direct jobs 5,147 ▲Employment services 1,730 ▲Employment incentives 555 ▲Vocational training 148 ▲Start-up support and others 36.

In particular, to secure employment stability, the district increased "direct jobs," which are public jobs directly hired by the district, by 665 (14.8%) compared to the previous year.

The number of target jobs and budget by group are ▲Youth 226 jobs (2.7 billion KRW) ▲Women 254 jobs (4.0 billion KRW) ▲Vulnerable groups 4,229 jobs (26.2 billion KRW) ▲Middle-aged and older 2,907 jobs (21.0 billion KRW), totaling approximately 54.1 billion KRW.

The district plans to significantly increase the related budget by more than 55% compared to previous years to help vulnerable groups achieve self-reliance through jobs and provide stronger protection for the disadvantaged.

To this end, it will expand senior jobs and social activity support (3,307 people), and support public jobs where the vulnerable help each other, such as companion jobs (364 people), self-support work projects (240 people), childcare worker dispatch projects (160 people), and jobs for people with disabilities (234 people).

To establish a solid public-private cooperation system for job and start-up support, the district operates the Job Plus Center, where professional career counselors provide one-stop support from job registration to job counseling, vocational training, and employment linkage for 1,230 job seekers.

Additionally, through large-scale job fairs offering quality employment information and on-site recruitment opportunities, as well as job discovery teams, the district plans to connect 500 people to jobs.

Efforts will also be made to develop vocational skills across diverse generations such as youth, multicultural families, women, and middle-aged people. Through programs including youth internships, customized youth and middle-aged employment linkage programs, employment capacity-building education for multicultural families, safe reemployment for career-interrupted women, start-up incubating, and operation of start-up support centers, about 180 jobs will be created.

Furthermore, to create a reliable and safe quality childcare environment, the district will support employment wages for 539 people, including daycare center childcare teachers.

Moreover, to expand social participation of retirees and people with disabilities, the district will build a Yangcheon-type talent pool, supporting customized job discovery and vocational training suitable for job seekers’ conditions, focusing on sustainable job creation.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "In the current situation of economic downturn caused by interest rate hikes and high inflation, it is the right time for the administration to implement solid and detailed job policies." He added, "Based on this policy, we will do our best to create sustainable quality jobs so that Yangcheon can become a city where anyone can freely work."
