On the 11th, a video titled "Grandmother aiming for a settlement" was posted on an online community, sparking controversy. In the video posted by Mr. A, the elderly woman, pulling a walker, quickly walks in front of a vehicle coming up from the underground parking lot to the ground level. When the vehicle notices her and turns left, she quickly pushes the walker she was pulling toward the front of the vehicle. Mr. A added, "She persistently demands a settlement without insurance processing by either causing a collision between the car and the walker or by directly colliding with the car herself."

Netizens who saw the video responded with comments such as, "I was targeted by this method a few years ago. Be careful," "This should be reported as fraud," "She looks like a curling player," "Report her before more victims appear," and "How much wealth and glory does she want to enjoy with money earned by hurting her own body?"

Meanwhile, self-harm extortion refers to the act of intentionally harming oneself under the pretense of an accident to obtain money. People who commit self-harm extortion usually do not report the accident to the police but demand a settlement and threaten the driver. However, this is not a legal settlement but a criminal act of extortion. Extortion is a crime involving obtaining property benefits by threatening a person to hand over property or causing a third party to hand over property. If found guilty of extortion, one may face imprisonment of up to 10 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.
