[Click eStock] "This Year's General Meeting Season Will Be the Starting Point for Shareholder Proposals"

There has been a claim that this shareholder meeting season could be the starting point for shareholder proposals.

Jinwoo Lee, a researcher at Meritz Securities, said, "I expect the shareholder meeting to approach with a different atmosphere than in the past," adding, "This is because it could be an event related to meeting market expectations for shareholder returns, the rise of shareholder activism, and changes in the dividend record date."

There was also an opinion that this March shareholder meeting season will serve as a benchmark to distinguish the quality of shareholder returns rather than just a formal event. Researcher Jinwoo Lee stated, "From a short-term perspective, March is a time to confirm companies' willingness to participate in policies," and "The quality of companies that had reflected expectations for shareholder returns can be distinguished."

Researcher Jinwoo Lee particularly emphasized the need to pay attention to shareholder activism. He said, "Considering that shareholder activism inevitably follows the boom in value stock investment, I believe this shareholder meeting season could be the starting point for shareholder proposals," and added, "This is why we need to focus on shareholder activism that follows policy drives."

He also advised closely observing shareholder return movements according to the changed dividend record date. Jinwoo Lee said, "From February to early March, major banks and automobile companies were involved, while in mid to late March, insurance and individual companies are mainly positioned," and "Especially, companies with high expectations for shareholder returns may experience significant short-term volatility. It is necessary to refer to the list of companies with dividend record dates in March."
