According to major foreign media on the 12th (local time), the 27 leaders urged the EU Commission in the draft joint statement of the EU summit to be held in Brussels, Belgium on the 21st-22nd to prepare additional sanctions against Belarus, North Korea, and Iran.

Earlier, the Commission included North Korean Defense Minister Kang Sun-nam and the North Korean Missile General Bureau in the 13th package of sanctions against Russia announced on the 23rd of last month. This was the EU's first sanctions against North Korea related to the Ukraine war.

If additional sanctions are publicly demanded at this EU summit, follow-up measures are expected to be considered at the Commission level.

The EU is also monitoring Iran's trend of providing ballistic missiles to Russia. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, warned in a speech at the European Parliament plenary session held in Strasbourg, France on the same day, "If Iran provides ballistic missiles to Russia, we are prepared to respond with additional sanctions."
