Jeon Ji-ye, Resigns as Proportional Representative of Opposition Satellite Party... "Don't Want to Worry the People Who Want to Judge Yoon"

Pro-North Media Reports "Claims Contrary to Facts"

Jeon Ji-ye, an operating committee member of the Financial Justice Solidarity who was selected as the citizen society proportional representation candidate for the opposition coalition satellite party, the Democratic United Party, withdrew from the candidacy on the 12th.

Jeon stated in a press release on the same day, "I have informed the citizen society side that I will not register as a proportional candidate for the Democratic United Party today."

He said, "I do not want to cause any worry or concern to the people who wish to judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, so I am withdrawing from the people's candidate," adding, "I will fight in the square to judge the Yoon Seok-yeol administration."

Earlier, the Democratic Party requested a re-nomination regarding the composition of the citizen society proportional representation quota of the Democratic United Party. Previously, the Coalition Politics Citizens' Meeting recommended Jeon and others as citizen society proportional representation candidates, but controversies arose over Jeon's past activities in anti-American organizations. As the controversy grew, the Democratic Party demanded a review.

Jeon explained, "The reason I challenged the people's candidate primary was to select candidates who address inequality and represent the marginalized and vulnerable."

He also rebutted media reports labeling him as a member of pro-North Korean groups, saying, "These claims are false and disparage the purpose of the people's primary."

He stated, "The 22nd general election must be a general election to judge the prosecutorial dictatorship of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration," and added, "I hope the achievements of the coalition politics of the democratic progressive citizen society are not damaged."
