Kim Tae-jin, a member of the Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Council (Progressive Party), delivered a 5-minute free speech on the topic of ‘Safety Status Survey of 5 Autonomous Districts’ at the 320th extraordinary session on the 12th.
The 2023 Gwangju Metropolitan City Safety Index Survey results for the five autonomous districts showed that the fire safety sector was very excellent, while the traffic accident and suicide sectors were relatively low.
According to the regional safety index results announced by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on February 19, Kim stated, “In the fire safety sector, Seo-gu and Nam-gu achieved Grade 1, while the other three autonomous districts achieved Grade 2.”
However, in the suicide and traffic accident sectors, none of the five autonomous districts achieved Grade 1.
In particular, in the suicide sector, Buk-gu was rated Grade 4, and the other four districts were rated Grade 3. In the traffic accident sector, Dong-gu and Gwangsan-gu were Grade 4, Seo-gu and Buk-gu were Grade 3, and Nam-gu was Grade 2, indicating that the safety index was weaker compared to other sectors.
Additionally, in the crime sector, Nam-gu was Grade 1, Seo-gu and Dong-gu were Grade 4; in the living safety sector, Nam-gu was Grade 1 and Gwangsan-gu was Grade 4. In the infectious disease sector, Dong-gu was Grade 1, while Seo-gu and Nam-gu were Grade 4.
In response, Councilor Kim urged, “In the traffic accident sector, specific measures should be prepared to improve the local traffic safety environment, and in the suicide sector, to expand dedicated suicide prevention officials and increase the rate of healthy behavior practice.”
Meanwhile, Nam-gu and Dong-gu were selected as excellent improvement areas due to grade increases in four sectors compared to the previous year.
Finally, Councilor Kim said, “We were able to understand the results of the safety index survey of the five autonomous districts of Gwangju by sector, and I hope that improvement plans will be prepared based on this.”
