Tving Gears Up Live Broadcast System Ahead of KBO Regular Season

TVING, "Continued Investment in Stable Systems and Workforce Expansion"
Offering Various Features Including Time Machine and Digital Cheers
Allows Shorts Under 40 Seconds and Plans Special Content

Online video service (OTT) provider TVING, which secured the broadcasting rights for the KBO League, has expressed its ambition to introduce a live streaming system exclusively available on new media ahead of the regular season starting on March 23.

Tving Gears Up Live Broadcast System Ahead of KBO Regular Season

On the 12th, TVING announced at the 'TVING K-Ball Service Briefing' commemorating the KBO League broadcast that it plans to continuously invest in a stable professional baseball broadcasting system and baseball-related content production, as well as expand its workforce. TVING is committed to fully preparing for live broadcasts ahead of the official KBO League regular season starting on the 23rd. At the briefing, TVING CEO Joohee Choi, Chief Strategy Officer Hyunjin Lee, and Chief Product Officer Taeksu Jeon introduced the KBO League service strategy and held a Q&A session.

From Live Broadcasts to Highlights, All Accessible by Opening the TVING App

Leveraging the characteristics of an OTT provider, TVING allows viewers to enjoy KBO games on various devices such as mobile phones, tablets, PCs, and smart TVs. It also operates a 'KBO Special Zone,' creating an environment where users can access live broadcasts and highlights with just one click by opening the TVING app. Fans can subscribe to their favorite team as 'My Team' and set app push notifications to receive alerts for key games in advance. Additionally, various services such as match schedules, team lineups, and scoring information are available.

Viewers can also use the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) feature, which shrinks the viewing screen into a popup window. The lowest-priced ad-supported Standard plan, costing 5,500 KRW per month, allows PIP functionality only for live channels.

Simultaneous Viewing of Four Games a Day and Digital Cheering... Offering a New Viewing Experience

TVING’s time machine feature, already applied to sports and concert live broadcasts, actively reflects baseball fans’ demands such as compiling scoring scenes. Considering diverse viewing habits, a multi-view mode allows watching four games simultaneously in one day, and an audio mode that lets users listen to commentary only will be introduced in the future.

The group chat feature 'TVING Talk,' designed to encourage digital cheering culture, will be enhanced into team-specific cheering rooms where up to 500,000 home fans can connect simultaneously. For fast and accurate text graphic broadcasting, TVING will introduce Korea’s first pitch batting average prediction service.

As part of its win-win relationship with the KBO League, TVING continuously considers a copyright opening policy that is friendly to baseball culture. It plans to allow the general public to shoot videos or photos at stadiums and upload them to personal SNS accounts without copyright conflicts. The culture of sharing processed short videos under 40 seconds on SNS is also encouraged.

With over 16,000 clip videos annually, TVING aims to attract new professional baseball fans. On game days, daily uploads include interview clips, compilations of scoring scenes, and key moments of promising players and foreign players. Newly planned clips will also introduce baseball terms and rules, showcase rare moments at ballparks (such as mistakes and viral scenes), and provide three-game series reviews.

Using the vast archive of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) spanning approximately 40 years from 1982 to 2024, along with recent footage, TVING is planning KBO special content such as 'Legendary Matches,' '100 Documentary Series of KBO Representative Players,' 'KBO Ranking Show,' and 'Historic Moments by Team.'

The 'TVING SUPER MATCH,' which selects one game weekly to present preview shows and behind-the-scenes review shows, will offer tracking cams that follow the ball, in-game audio recordings, and 360-degree rotating 4D cams. The first video will be unveiled on March 23 with the opening game between the Hanwha Eagles and LG Twins.

A TVING representative said, "We have increased investment in the KBO League broadcasting system and content production," adding, "We are fully committed to preparing for the KBO League broadcast by consolidating all the know-how that has allowed us to establish a presence in the market."

Meanwhile, to lower user barriers, TVING is offering all subscribers free access to the KBO League until April 30. Full game replays (VOD), channels for all 10 teams, real-time text commentary, highlight clips, shorts, and clip videos will continue to be provided free of charge in the future.
