Statue to Be Installed at Dongdaegu Station Within This Year
Ordinance for Commemorative Project to Be Enacted in April
Hong Jun-pyo, the Mayor of Daegu, is accelerating the construction of a statue of President Park Chung-hee.
On the 11th, at an executive meeting held in the large conference room of the Sanggyeok Building at Daegu City Hall, Mayor Hong instructed, “Enact the ‘Ordinance on Supporting the Daegu City Park Chung-hee President Memorial Project’ by April and establish a statue construction committee composed of experts.”
Mayor Hong also said, “Name the plaza at Dongdaegu Station as Park Chung-hee Plaza and erect a statue of Park Chung-hee. Additionally, name the park inside Daegu Library as Park Chung-hee Park and install a large statue, ensuring that all related procedures are completed within this year.”
After receiving a report from the Daegu City Planning and Coordination Office on the ‘2024 First Supplementary Budget Formulation and Thorough Rapid Execution,’ Mayor Hong emphasized, “In the overall difficult economic situation in Daegu, there are many cases where public institutions delay budget execution,” and added, “For all public construction projects ordered by Daegu City in fields such as construction and urban planning that do not require compensation procedures, ensure rapid execution of this year’s budget by the end of June.”

After receiving a report from the Daegu City Airport Construction Team on the ‘Prompt Promotion of Public and Private Participation for the Formation of the TK New Airport SPC,’ Mayor Hong said, “To shorten the project period, start the design early and expedite the formation of the SPC,” and instructed, “By the end of this month, sequentially and swiftly proceed with signing memorandums of understanding with the main public institutions such as LH in Phase 1, the Industrial Bank and private banks (FI) in Phase 2, and private construction (CI) lead companies in Phase 3.”
Following a report from the Future Innovation Growth Office on the ‘Daegu Opportunity Development Special Zone Promotion Plan,’ he said, “Apply for the special zone focusing on Suseong Alpha City, National Industrial Complex Phase 2, and Kumho Waterpolis to accelerate digital transformation and future industry restructuring based on the Opportunity Development Special Zone,” and urged, “Make thorough preparations to ensure that related administrative procedures such as MOUs with related organizations, establishment of the basic plan for the special zone, and revision of tax support ordinances proceed without any setbacks.”
After a report from the Youth and Women’s Education Bureau on the ‘Operation Plan Following the Designation of the Education Development Special Zone Pilot Area,’ Mayor Hong said, “The International Baccalaureate (IB) education program currently promoted by the Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education is causing a nationwide sensation,” and emphasized, “Closely coordinate with the Education Office on ways Daegu City can support, such as training IB education specialist teachers, for the rise of Daegu and future generations.”
Finally, Mayor Hong said, “Now that spring has come, all employees should think responsibly about how to cultivate Daegu’s spring,” and urged, “All departments and offices should cooperate and strive so that Daegu can be revived and have a brilliant spring.”
