AI Business Including Marine Navigation Data
HD Hyundai accelerates digital transformation by partnering with Team Naver.
HD Hyundai announced on the 11th that it signed a business agreement with Team Naver at Naver’s second data center 'Gak Sejong' located in Sejong City to promote 'cloud transition and AI commercialization.'
The signing ceremony was attended by key executives from both companies, including Jung Ki-sun, Vice Chairman of HD Hyundai; Lee Tae-jin, Head of DT Innovation Office at HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore; Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver; and Kim Yoo-won, CEO of Naver Cloud.
The two companies plan to jointly carry out ▲support for HD Hyundai’s cloud transition and utilization of Naver’s large-scale AI 'HyperCLOVA X' ▲advancement of infrastructure for cloud business ▲promotion of marine digital application business by HD Hyundai Marine Solutions.
First, by applying Naver’s large language model (LLM) AI 'HyperCLOVA X' to HD Hyundai’s database (DB) of over 200 million shipbuilding and marine-related records, they aim to maximize work efficiency and expertise through the implementation and utilization of generative AI services. They will also pursue transitioning the infrastructure that HD Hyundai has built and operates independently to the Naver Cloud Platform.
They will also explore various new business opportunities. Since the second half of last year, HD Hyundai and Team Naver have been conducting projects using cloud and AI technologies in the shipbuilding and shipping sectors, and are preparing for the official launch of 'Meta Ocean Data Cloud.' 'Meta Ocean Data Cloud' is a comprehensive marine data platform built on the Naver Cloud Platform that collects operational data of vessels worldwide and provides necessary information to shipowners.
The cooperative relationship between the two companies will be further expanded through HD Hyundai’s marine comprehensive solution company, HD Hyundai Marine Solutions. Utilizing data collected through 'Meta Ocean Data Cloud,' HD Hyundai Marine Solutions plans to advance the next-generation smart ship solution ISS and commercialize the decarbonization solution 'OceanWise.' Through this, they intend to implement management of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) of vessels and overall operation and management of ships underway on the cloud, providing one-stop solutions and consulting services.
Additionally, Naver’s AI technology will be used to develop an AI chatbot for customer inquiries and responses related to ship and engine A/S by HD Hyundai Marine Solutions, offering more detailed consulting services.
Choi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, said, "By combining HD Hyundai’s accumulated knowledge assets, business capabilities, and rich experience in the shipbuilding and marine sectors with Naver’s technology and infrastructure, we hope to create new business models and grow together.
