The National Innovation Party has decided to file charges against President Yoon Seok-yeol, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol, and Justice Minister Park Seong-jae regarding the lifting of the travel ban on former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop. Lee is a key suspect in the case of Sergeant Chae Su-geun's death in the line of duty, and the lifting of the travel ban is said to have obstructed the investigation.
The National Innovation Party announced that at 2 p.m. on the 11th, former prosecutor Park Eun-jung, former head of the Immigration and Foreign Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Justice Cha Gyu-geun, and former Legislative Office chief Kim Hyeong-yeon will visit the High-ranking Officials’ Crime Investigation Office in Gwacheon to submit a complaint.
The complaint states, "President Yoon Seok-yeol and Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol appointed former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop, who is a suspect, as ambassador to Australia and issued the personnel order, while Justice Minister Park Seong-jae and Deputy Minister of Justice Shim Woo-jeong lifted the travel ban on Lee, thereby assisting his departure."
The National Innovation Party pointed out, "Lee Jong-seop is the key suspect in the case of Sergeant Chae Su-geun. It is shameless and disgraceful for the President of the Republic of Korea to blatantly help a suspect escape in broad daylight under the watchful eyes of the entire nation."
The Green Justice Party also announced its intention to file charges.
Kim Jun-woo, co-representative of the Green Justice Party, said at the party’s executive committee meeting that day, "The Ministry of Justice lifted the travel ban on suspect Lee Jong-seop without any grounds, and meanwhile, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials conducted a summary investigation. It can only be seen as a crime concealment and escape attempt to somehow smuggle out a key suspect."
He added, "We plan to submit a complaint against Justice Minister Park Seong-jae and others to the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials today."
