First Renewal After Introducing Postbox... Added Convenience Features
300 Won Discount Event for Renewal
Alttel Delivery Accounted for 25.3% of Total Parcel Volume Last Year
Convenience store CU's budget-friendly parcel service has shown significant growth in just three years. To mark the renewal of CU PostBox, the parcel acceptance device, CU is launching a discount event for its budget-friendly parcel service.
According to CU, operated by BGF Retail, the number of budget-friendly parcel shipments last year grew more than 11 times compared to the first year since its launch about three years ago. The budget-friendly parcel service utilizes a nationwide logistics network, allowing customers to send parcels at CU stores and pick them up at a designated CU store. It offers the advantage of being available at less than half the price of regular parcels and allows parcel receipt at convenience stores without exposing personal information.
The share of budget-friendly parcels in CU's total parcel shipments is also increasing. The proportion of budget-friendly parcels among CU's total parcel usage was 1.8% in 2020, rising to 8.2% in 2021, 15.8% in 2022, and reaching 25.3% last year.
It is analyzed that the budget-friendly parcel service has rapidly grown as secondhand trading, centered on the Z+Alpha generation, has become a consumer culture. CU's analysis of the age distribution of budget-friendly parcel users last year showed that teenagers accounted for 24.8%, and people in their twenties accounted for 32.4%. The combined share of users in their teens and twenties exceeded half (57.2%) of the total usage.
Additionally, CU fully renewed the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) of PostBox on the 4th. This is the first renewal since CU introduced PostBox in 2016.
The renewal focused on simplifying buttons, adding convenience features, and improving search and information input methods to enhance customer convenience. In particular, the main screen and the reservation acceptance process were made clearer from the user's perspective. For example, on the map screen where customers select the parcel pickup store, information is presented more intuitively to improve user convenience.
To celebrate the first renewal of PostBox, CU is also holding an event offering a 300 KRW discount on budget-friendly parcels regardless of delivery distance or weight. Sending items weighing 1 kg or less with a 300 KRW discount allows customers to use the budget-friendly parcel service starting from 1,500 KRW. This price is 62.5% cheaper than regular parcel services.
Shin Sang-yong, head of the Service Platform Team at BGF Retail, said, "With this CU PostBox renewal, more customers can use parcel services more easily and conveniently at nearby convenience stores. Going forward, CU will continue to leverage the nation's largest network to provide services that customers want at convenience stores near their homes, establishing itself as a lifestyle-oriented platform."
Meanwhile, BGF Networks, which operates CU parcel services, signed a business partnership with international express company DHL Korea on the 6th, enabling overseas shipments from nearby CU stores. Customers can make reservations on the CU parcel website and visit CU stores to send overseas parcels, with a maximum weight limit of 20 kg.
