University Students Moving to Ulsan Area After January 1 This Year
First 200,000 KRW · 100,000 KRW After 6 Months Maintenance for 8 Semesters
University students studying in Ulsan will receive living scholarships if they transfer their residence to Ulsan City.
On the 11th, Ulsan City announced that it will actively promote the "2024 Local University Competitiveness Enhancement Specialized Project" to increase the local youth population and strengthen the competitiveness of local universities.
In last month's public contest, five universities were selected: Ulsan University, Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology, Ulsan College of Science, Chunhae Health University, and Korea Polytechnic University Ulsan Campus.
This project provides living scholarships to university students who have entered universities in the Ulsan area from other regions to help them settle stably in the local community.
The living scholarship recipients are university students enrolled in Ulsan-area universities who have transferred their residence to Ulsan City after January 1, 2024, and the support is limited to the first 1,000 applicants.
The support amount is up to 900,000 KRW per person, with an initial payment of 200,000 KRW upon first transfer of residence, and an additional 100,000 KRW per semester for up to 8 semesters if the student maintains their residence in Ulsan City for more than 6 months.
To apply, those who transfer their residence between January and March 2024 should prepare an application form and a resident registration abstract (including past addresses for 5 years) and submit them to their university’s reception office starting April 1 while enrolled.
Those who transfer their residence between April and September 2024 can apply starting in October. However, the project may end early if the budget is exhausted.
The second round of living scholarships will be paid in November by verifying enrollment information and 6-month residence maintenance without a separate application. For more details, please refer to the Ulsan City website.
An official from Ulsan City stated, “Recently, local universities have been facing crises due to the decline in the school-age population and concentration in the metropolitan area,” adding, “Through this project, Ulsan City and universities will cooperate to strengthen the competitiveness of local universities and attract young people.”
