Gyeonggi Province will provide cleaning expenses of 700,000 KRW each to 711 designated restaurants to improve the re-designation rate of restaurants with hygiene grades.
The restaurant hygiene grading system was introduced in 2017 targeting general restaurants, rest restaurants, and bakeries to improve restaurant hygiene levels, prevent food poisoning, and guarantee consumers' right to choose restaurants.
Gyeonggi Province has established 44 evaluation criteria for grade designation, awarding grades based on scores: ▲80 points or higher for Good (★), ▲85 points or higher for Excellent (★★), and ▲90 points or higher for Very Excellent (★★★).
This year, Gyeonggi Province has allocated a budget of 497 million KRW for the cleaning expense support project for restaurants with hygiene grades, planning to support cleaning expenses for 711 places in 22 cities and counties.
The support targets are restaurants with hygiene grades, including general restaurants, rest restaurants, and bakeries, whose final hygiene grade designation date was more than one year ago.
Applications can be made by restaurant owners who have cleaned kitchen facilities such as ducts, hoods, and ventilators, and then claim the costs from the hygiene department of the relevant city or county.
Inchikwon, Director of the Food Safety Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We expect that the cleaning expense support project for restaurants with hygiene grades, which has been promoted since 2023, will help improve the re-designation rate of restaurants with hygiene grades and revitalize the restaurant hygiene grading system."
Meanwhile, last year, Gyeonggi Province supported cleaning expenses of 700,000 KRW each for 650 restaurants with hygiene grades in 17 cities and counties.
