Geumcheon-gu Provides Temporary Shelter to Immediately Separate Female Violence Victims from Perpetrators

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will provide temporary accommodation to urgently shelter victims of female violence such as domestic violence, stalking, and dating violence.

As crimes of violence against women have emerged as a major social issue, the district is promoting this project to secure the safety of victims and prevent secondary damage by establishing a joint response system with the police.

It takes at least 2 to 3 days from the time a female violence crime is reported to the police until a court issues a restraining order against the perpetrator. When a dedicated police officer connects a victim who needs immediate separation from the perpetrator to temporary accommodation, Geumcheon-gu supports the related expenses. Female victims of violence can use the temporary accommodation for up to 5 days.

On the 8th, the district signed a business agreement with Geumcheon Police Station in the small conference room on the 9th floor of Geumcheon-gu Office to promote the ‘Emergency Temporary Shelter Support for Female Violence Victims’ project. The signing ceremony was attended by Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, Lee Jong-seo, Chief of Geumcheon Police Station, and others, who agreed to communicate closely and cooperate for the prevention of violence against women, protection and support of victims, and safety of the local community.

The district is making multifaceted efforts to prevent violence against women and protect and support victims. It operates ‘Visiting Violence Prevention Education’ targeting children, adolescents, and general residents. It also runs the ‘Safe Return Scout’ to support the safe return home of crime-vulnerable groups such as single-person households and to patrol high-crime areas.

Additionally, the district plans to provide safety equipment such as ‘intelligent doorbells’ and home closed-circuit televisions (CCTV) to single-person households and victims of stalking crimes.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “I am very honored to sign this agreement for female violence victims on March 8, International Women’s Day,” and added, “We will strengthen the cooperative system with Geumcheon Police Station and do our best to ensure the safety and protection of women and other socially vulnerable groups.”
