Minju No Woong-rae Declares Withdrawal from General Election... "Will Follow Party Decision"

"Unite to Judge Yoon Seok-yeol's Prosecutorial Dictatorship"

Democratic Party four-term lawmaker No Woong-rae, who went on a hunger strike in protest of being cut off from the party nomination for the general election, has announced that he will not run in the April 10 general election.

No issued a statement saying, "I will abide by the party's decision," and added, "I will also take the lead in creating a Democratic Party that is true to its values."

No emphasized, "I went on a hunger strike to correct the party leadership's unfair and opaque nomination system, but now we must unite our strength for the greater cause of judging Yoon Seok-yeol's prosecutorial dictatorship."

He continued, "As a Democratic Party member who has upheld the party since my predecessors, I will protect the party and contribute to defeating Yoon Seok-yeol's prosecutorial dictatorship through victory in the general election," adding, "Just as I have practiced principled politics without regard to factions, I will devote all my efforts to building a Democratic Party true to its values."

He also pointed out, "The public is seriously concerned about the party's privatization and factional politics," and warned, "If we lose the general election due to the leadership's arbitrary nomination and misjudgment of the situation, they must take responsibility."

No began a hunger strike in the party leader's office on March 22 in protest after his constituency, Mapo-gap in Seoul, was designated a strategic district. He ended the hunger strike after nine days, and the party's Strategic Nomination Management Committee nominated former Senior Superintendent Lee Ji-eun, a recruited talent, for Mapo-gap.
