Treated at Animal Hospital After Rescue
An abandoned dog that suffered severe abuse, including mutilation of its body, was found, sparking outrage among netizens. Recently, a video titled "Please help Minki, a female puppy who was violently abused by humans" was posted on the YouTube channel 'That Man's Blank Trip.' The YouTuber, Mr. A, who introduced himself as a volunteer donating his talents to an animal shelter, shared the story of rescuing the abandoned dog 'Minki' in the video. Minki is estimated to be four years old.
Minki was found on the 2nd in a village in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. At the time of discovery, Minki was groaning with severe wounds. The initial reporter called 119, and the firefighters who arrived later rescued Minki and transferred her to a nearby animal shelter. Minki is currently under temporary care at the shelter. The reporter, Mr. B, explained the situation in the YouTube video, saying, "Her eyes were so desperate. Even though she saw me for the first time, she licked me, which seemed like a signal saying 'help me,' so I immediately looked for what to do."
He also described how serious Minki's physical condition was. There were signs of being hit on the head, and her hind legs were tied up, preventing her from escaping. After hearing Minki's story, the shelter decided to rescue her. The shelter sent Minki to a veterinary hospital in Seoul to treat her wounds. Mr. A said, "Her genital area was more than half damaged and bleeding. It was impossible to confirm whether she had been spayed." He added that pus had accumulated inside Minki's body and had to be drained through an artificial tube. Currently, Minki has safely undergone surgery and is recovering. The veterinary hospital plans to perform additional surgeries as soon as her condition improves.
Minki's story spread across online communities and social networking services (SNS). Netizens who saw the video expressed anger, saying, "This is horrific," "This is not something a human should do," and "Please catch the culprit and punish them severely." Meanwhile, under the current Animal Protection Act, those who kill or cause death to animals through abuse face imprisonment of up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won. Cases of violations of the Animal Protection Act have been steadily increasing recently. According to data from the National Police Agency, animal abuse cases rose from 322 in 2017 to 688 in 2021, nearly doubling.
