Emerging Promising Jobs as Various Support Measures for Low Birthrate... New Training Courses Every Month from March to September at Women's Capability Development Center... Nationwide Only Employment-Linked 50% Additional Tuition Refund Enables 100% Tuition Support, Quality Education Provided by Excellent Experienced Instructors -
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) plans to train 115 postpartum and newborn care specialists this year as a support measure for the low birthrate issue, a profession that has recently emerged as a promising job sector.
Postpartum and newborn care specialists, who support mothers' postpartum recovery and newborn care, can work in various fields such as postpartum care centers, postpartum and newborn health management centers, and home visit services.
In particular, due to the government's voucher support for postpartum and newborn care management projects and Gangnam-gu's reimbursement support for out-of-pocket expenses, the number of service users in Gangnam-gu reached 1,380 last year, showing high demand and increasing need for postpartum and newborn care specialists.
The training conducted at the Gangnam-gu Women's Competency Development Center is divided into new and experienced classes. New trainees complete a total of 60 hours of theory and practice, including postpartum care, newborn care, nutrition management, and hygiene management. Experienced workers such as caregivers, nurses, and nursing assistants complete a total of 40 hours of theory and practice covering the roles and responsibilities of health managers, newborn health management, and accident prevention. Upon completion, trainees receive a certificate accredited by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The tuition fee is 200,000 KRW for new trainees and 150,000 KRW for experienced trainees. However, if they work more than 400 hours under the Ministry of Health and Welfare's voucher support program, 50% of the tuition fee is reimbursed. Additionally, Gangnam-gu uniquely offers an extra 50% tuition discount upon employment, allowing trainees to receive a full refund of their tuition fees.
Moreover, excellent experienced professionals from the private sector are selected as instructors, utilizing a pool of 11 instructors compared to other institutions that have only one or two. The center also collaborates with dispatch agencies to support employment for those who complete the training. Last year, 133 people completed the training, and 80 succeeded in finding jobs, achieving a 60% employment rate.
Applications for the training can be made through the Women's Competency Development Center website, and detailed inquiries can be made by phone to the center. Classes are held six times from March to September, with new courses starting every month, so applicants can choose the session they wish to attend.
Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “Postpartum and newborn care specialists can contribute to women's participation in economic activities and strengthen the community care support system. We will continue to provide various employment support services to assist job seekers and actively support women with career interruptions to work in their desired professions.”
