Medical expenses for injury up to 150,000 KRW per person, funeral expenses for accidental death up to 10,000,000 KRW per person
Falls, trips, crush injuries, sprains, collisions, blows, burns, electric shocks, animal-related accidents, etc.
Gangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that it has expanded the coverage of the 2024 Resident Safety Insurance to focus on injury medical expenses and injury death funeral expenses for residents who suffer damage from various disasters and accidents in daily life.
The Resident Safety Insurance is a system that supports damage recovery through an insurance company contracted with the district when residents experience unexpected disasters or safety accidents. Residents registered in Gangbuk-gu (including registered foreigners and registered overseas Koreans) are automatically enrolled.
Last year, the district provided a fixed-amount Resident Safety Insurance for certain items such as water play deaths, gas accidents, death-related disabilities, and hit-and-run uninsured accident deaths. This year, the coverage has been expanded to a reimbursement type that covers medical expenses for various injury situations frequently occurring in residents' daily lives, such as falls, trips, sprains, fire/explosion, burns, drowning, animal-related accidents, school zone or silver zone traffic accidents, and personal mobility device traffic accidents.
Residents who suffer such accidents can receive up to 150,000 KRW per person for injury medical expenses, including emergency costs, treatment fees, surgery fees, and hospitalization fees, and up to 10,000,000 KRW per person for injury death funeral expenses. It is also possible to receive overlapping payments with personal indemnity insurance.
For injury medical expenses, a deductible of 30,000 KRW per claim is applied, while there is no deductible for injury death funeral expenses. However, accidents that can be compensated through traffic accident insurance, industrial accident insurance, other liability insurance, or national support funds are excluded from insurance payment coverage.
The insurance period is from March 2, 2024, to March 1, 2025, and claims can be made within three years from the date of the accident if the resident was registered in Gangbuk-gu on the day of the accident.
To claim insurance benefits, residents can download the form from the Resident Safety Insurance bulletin board under Disaster Safety in the Gangbuk-gu Office website, fill it out, and submit it via email or fax to the Gangbuk-gu Resident Safety Insurance Reception Center.
Gas accidents, hit-and-run, burn surgery fees, dog bite accidents, and heat-related illness accidents that occurred before March 2, 2024, can be submitted to the insurance center. For other inquiries, contact the Disaster Safety Division of Gangbuk-gu Office for detailed information.
Mayor Lee Soon-hee of Gangbuk-gu said, "I hope the Gangbuk-gu Resident Safety Insurance will help residents who face difficulties due to unexpected accidents in daily life. We will continue to strive to be a practical protection system that supports the lives of our residents."
