A Total of 300 Million Won Invested, Operating 5 Buses
Addressing Worker Commute Issues and Labor Shortages
Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will operate a free shuttle bus for workers at the Ocheon General Industrial Complex.
The Ocheon General Industrial Complex has many low-wage, elderly female workers who are vulnerable to employment, and the poor public transportation routes have made commuting difficult, resulting in a serious labor shortage.
In response, Yeosu City has been promoting a free shuttle bus support project since 2020. This year, a total of 300 million KRW, including provincial funds, will be invested, and the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry will carry out the project.
The shuttle bus operates with a total of five buses on five routes departing around 7 a.m. from ▲ Sinwol Kumho Town A ▲ Chonnam National University Gukdong Campus ▲ Ungcheon Booyoung A (Phase 2) ▲ Hanjae Bus Stop ▲ Samil Middle School.
In particular, real-time bus location information can be checked according to the bus stop through the ‘Shuttle Bus Smart App,’ and detailed operation times and routes can be found on the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry website (Notices).
A city official stated, “The operation of the shuttle bus is expected to greatly contribute not only to solving workers’ commuting problems but also to smooth manpower supply, encouraging long-term employment of workers, and improving corporate productivity.”
Meanwhile, last year, about 56,000 people used the free shuttle bus, receiving great responses from workers.
