National Intangible Heritage Center 'Traditional Craft Certification Program' Contest

Strengthening Quality and Credibility to Establish a Sales Channel Foundation

The National Intangible Heritage Center and the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation are conducting a call for entries for the ‘Traditional Craft Certification System’ until the 31st. This system has been implemented since 2016 under the ‘Act on the Protection and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage.’ It certifies traditional crafts that embody the skills of national intangible heritage transmission to support transmission activities. By enhancing quality and credibility, it also establishes a foundation for market access.

Traditional crafts are selected through procedures including document and physical inspections, on-site (workshop) evaluations, and toxicity tests. Certified works receive benefits such as a certificate and plaque issued in the name of the Director of the National Intangible Heritage Center, copyright registration (issued by the Korea Copyright Commission), and participation in the Craft Trend Fair. An official stated, “From this year, we have raised the maximum price for submissions from the previous 3 million won to 10 million won, so we expect to showcase a wider variety of traditional crafts.”

Application documents must be submitted via email by 4 p.m. on the 31st. Physical works can be submitted in person or by mail from the 3rd to the 5th of next month. For more details, please refer to the websites of the National Intangible Heritage Center or the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation.
