As of 9:25 a.m., the KOSPI index was trading at 2,643.43, down 5.97 points (0.23%) from the previous trading day. The index opened at 2,638.84, down 10.56 points (0.40%), but the decline has been narrowing. Foreigners sold 62.8 billion KRW and institutions sold 66.7 billion KRW, while individuals were the sole buyers with purchases worth 125.3 billion KRW.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Shinhan Financial Group (3.06%), NAVER (1.48%), Samsung Biologics (0.77%), KB Financial Group (0.58%), Kakao (0.39%), and Hyundai Motor (0.20%) are rising. Conversely, Samsung C&T (-1.64%), POSCO Future M (-1.58%), Samsung Life Insurance (-1.53%), LG Chem (-1.44%), and POSCO Holdings (-1.45%) are declining.
By sector, non-metallic minerals (0.13%), services (0.12%), chemicals (0.08%), and pharmaceuticals (0.08%) are up. On the other hand, insurance (-1.33%), securities (-0.75%), medical precision (-0.68%), electric and gas utilities (-0.59%), and distribution (-0.48%) sectors are down.
On the 5th (local time) at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the blue-chip-focused Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 38,585.19, down 404.64 points (1.04%) from the previous day. The large-cap S&P 500 index fell 52.3 points (1.02%) to 5,078.65, and the Nasdaq index dropped 267.92 points (1.65%) to 15,939.59.
The New York market saw significant declines centered on tech stocks. Apple fell 2.84% after news that its market share in China's smartphone market dropped from 19% last year to 15.4%, and its ranking fell from 2nd to 4th. Tesla also declined 3.93% following reports of reduced shipments from its China factory and subsequent reports of a shutdown at its German plant. Microsoft (MS) and Netflix also fell 2.96% and 2.81%, respectively. However, Nvidia successfully reversed its decline and showed a standout performance.
At the same time, the KOSDAQ index rose 0.16 points (0.02%) to 866.53. The index opened down 4.70 points (0.54%) at 861.67 but rebounded. Foreigners and institutions sold 32.9 billion KRW and about 16.5 billion KRW, respectively, while individuals bought about 54.2 billion KRW.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, LegoChem Biosciences (16.83%), Enchem (9.45%), Samchundang Pharm (2.75%), Alteogen (1.98%), Soulbrain (2.34%), and Hugel (2.10%) are rising. Conversely, Sinsung Delta Tech (-4.00%), HLB (-2.89%), Lino Industrial (-1.23%), Eotechniques (-1.47%), and EcoPro BM (-0.78%) are declining.
